    Bob HansenBob Hansen was been Managing Director of Peanut Company of Australia from1993 to jul 2009. His previous experience was in Poultry Processing and Marketing with Ingham’s Victoria. Bob’s training was in Poultry Genetics but commercial experience was in business recovery of agricultural enterprises to a profitable situation; Nuigini Tablebirds (1977 to 1985), Harvey Farms NZ (1986 to 1988), Ingham’s VIC (1989 to 1993) and Peanut Company of Australia (1993 to Current).

    Bob has been instrumental in commercialising peanut breeding in Australia and introducing new international cultivars. PCA has released a minimum of one new cultivar annually.

    Bob is an advocate of the scientific and innovation approach to business. He has introduced many new innovations to the business such as
    a) Release of Cultivars annually
    b) Statistical approach to food quality
    c) New Generation of Electronic sorters
    d) Mitigation and adaption to Climate Change Impacts
    e) Developing Agricultural business’s in Papua New Guinea, New Zealand and Australia.

    Bob has established a consultancy focusing on the impacts of Climate Change on the Supply Chain, and the projection of Future Grain Prices, Rainfall, Crop Production and Currencies. He is a Director of several companies and Boards in Australia.

    Michael JesterMichael Jester was educated at the Kirchenpauer Gymnasium in Hamburg and has joined the Cremer-Gruppe in Hamburg as a trainee in 1986. After two years of apprenticeship he graduated at the Chamber of Commerce in 1988.

    In 1993 he set up a trading hub for grain and agricultural products for the Cremer group in Singapore. Today, he is the Managing Director of Peter Cremer Singapore and is responsible for the trading activities of the group with special focus on Asia. In addition to his responsibilities in Asia, he is a Director of the Cremer Companies in Australia and Canada.

    Vijay IyengarVijay Iyengar is the Founder and Managing Director of Agrocorp International Pte Ltd; a Singapore based International Commodity Trading House with a footprint across the globe.     Mr Iyengar holds a B Tech (Chemical Engineering) from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology – Mumbai and an MBA from Cornell University.     SINGAPORE, Dec. 2 /Press Release/ — The 2nd World Grains Trade summit, which will be held in Singapore on 20-21 Jan 2010, comes at a crucial time for the global grains industry, having experienced record grains prices & low demand during the last 1.5 years. What is in store when the global economy heads towards a recovery mode?  

     

    The 2nd World Grains Trade Summit will provide updates on issues dominating global grains markets. They include the opening up of Australia’s grains markets, increasing quantities of Black Sea grains in Asian and Middle East markets, erratic weather patterns, the weak US dollar, climbing crude prices and the impact of hedge and index funds on the commodities markets.

  • Minister of Agriculture, Indonesia shared outlook & competitiveness of livestock feed sector as he officiated the Global Feed Summit in Bali.

    Indonesia’s Minster of Agriculture, HE Ir. Suswono MA attended the recently concluded Global Feed Summit in Bali on 9-10 Nov 2009. The conference attracted around 80 participants from Europe, Asia, North America and Africa.

     

    HE Suswono, who was recently appointed as Indonesia’s Minister of Agriculture, officially opened the conference, and delivered the keynote address on the Competitiveness of the Livestock Feed Sector. In his speech, Suswono expressed that, “the poultry, dairy, swine and aquaculture industries are the most dynamic and competitive industries in the global agriculture sector”. He added, “from a global perspective, the feed industry will be focused on supply of raw materials”, and referenced emerging trends of, “more demand and less supply” which are currently dominating the marketplace.

     

     To be competitive, HE Suswono highlighted government commitments  to improve Indonesia’s marketing channels, reduce transportation & marketing costs, as well as  import taxes for several main imported feed raw materials and other production inputs.  

     

    HE Suswono’s speech summed up his belief that government policies, better marketing channels, alternative feeds, and technological innovations are part of the solution to balancing feed supply and demand.

     

    Monsanto’s Brian Uken also highlighted the importance of increasing crop yields via biotechnology in his highly rated speech, demonstrating its role in supplementing growing global demand for corn by doubling yields. He also cited a report published in Australia, which said that GM-producing countries dominate world trade in maize, soybeans, cottonseed and canola.

     

    The Global Feed Summit discussed and addressed several other issues that have arisen across the animal feed value chain, including advances in animal breeding, challenges for the world’s meat supply chain, feed business risk management, the grains markets, DDGS (Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles), Feed demand and supply in China, Mycotoxins and many more.

     

    Participants also took advantage of the over 6 hours of Networking and Card Exchange sessions, cleverly integrated into the conference program for delegates to take maximum advantage of the learning and networking at the conference.

     

    Erhard Briedenhann, Director for Feed & Protein from South Africa’s Afgri Trading & Logistics commented the conference wasExcellent & networking was also very good, and Wahjudi Gunawan, VP – Procurement, Intl Division of Japfa Comfeed offered “it is a well organized & good event” while Don Utoyo, the chairman of the Indonesia Poultry Forum (FMPI) said the conference was an excellent “suppliers and consumers meet”.

     

    Overall, the conference was well received in the industry, with most participants offering a good rating to their experience at the Bali meet.
